Ferric Chloride Storage Tank Ultrasonic Level Sensor

Ferric Chloride Storage Tank Ultrasonic Level Sensor

When the State of Minnesota needed reliable level measurement of their ferric chloride storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. The state has 11,842 lakes fed by 6,564 rivers or streams that may carry high levels of suspended solids, derived from mud and numerous biological sources. Where significant, solids cause stratification, resulting in increased water temperature, lower dissolved oxygen, and the loss of fish habitat. To combat this, flocculants are injected into damaging streams. Ferric chloride binds with suspended solids, and creates clumps that fall to the bottom, where lake microorganisms break them down. The state experienced problems with previous ultrasonic sensors during the humid summer months when significant condensation builds up on the transducers. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our reflective ultrasonic sensors that work in condensation. The ultrasonic sensor provides continuous level data to the SCADA system, which in turn, monitors the tank inventories and alarms for replenishment. Flowline is reliable level measurement.
