School Sewer Lift Station Radar Level Sensor

_________________________________________________________________

When Easton Pennsylvania Middle School needed reliable level measurement of their sewer pump lift station, they turned to Flowline. The pump station services 2,300 students and faculty, collecting and transferring cafeteria, gym, toilet and operational waste streams from the school to treatment plant. Filled with fecal waste, soapy foam and trash that disables float level switches, and requires expensive down-hole maintenance, district staff needed a reliable level solution. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact radar level sensor that is unaffected by foam, turbulence, fecal waste or trash. The radar sensor provides continuous level data to the SCADA, which in turn, monitors the station and controls the pumps. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Barge Fuel And Lubricant Tank Radar Level Sensor

When a Louisiana system integrator needed reliable level measurement of their customers fuel and lubricant barges, they turned to Flowline. The client supplies ships in and around the Gulf Coast with diesel fuel and oil via tanker barges. A typical barge is 190′ in length with 6 fuel tanks, 4 oil tanks and a capacity of 2.5 million gallons. Barges are filled and moved from supply terminal to customer ships or staging location and back with tug boats. The challenge is matching customer demand and location with their barge inventory on hand. Hence, the clients need for accurate and reliable inventory monitoring of their floating assets. In addition, they required intrinsic safety, and the ability to measure any petroleum product with a dielectric value ≥ 2. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our intrinsically safe radar level sensors that work from gas to grease, and everything in between. The pulse radar sensors provide continuous level data to the satellite telemetry system, which monitors each tank and uploads data packets to the client’s server. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Zoo Life Science Exhibit Pool Ultrasonic Level Sensor

When a Southern California zoo needed reliable level measurement of their seal exhibit pools, they turned to Flowline. Weighing up to 300 pounds, harbor seals are large, inquisitive mammals that tend to locate, play with and destroy accessible instrumentation. Their peak activity generates wave heights up to 6″ with splashing and water loss, that requires level monitoring and frequent replenishment. The process engineer was also concerned with salt water corrosion resistance, and the deployment of an animal friendly level sensing technology. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact ultrasonic level sensor, mounted in a stand pipe to dampen the effects of significant turbulence. The ultrasonic sensor provides continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, monitors the pool and controls the fill valve. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Hospital Cooling Tower Basin Guided Wave Level Sensor

When a Canadian hospital needed reliable level measurement of their data center facility cooling tower, they turned to Flowline. With administrative, patient and doctor data streaming real-time through the network, their servers generate massive heat, which left uncooled, will soon result in a crash and jeopardize care. Previous cooling tower disruptions were caused by conductance and float level switch failures, due to corrosion and scaling build-up. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our guided wave level sensor that is unaffected by scaling, and constructed of 316 stainless steel. The guided wave sensor provides continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, monitors the water basin and controls the fill valve. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Textile Effluent Lift Station Radar Level Sensor

When a Southeast textile manufacturer needed reliable level measurement of their clarifier pump lift stations, they turned to Flowline. Textile plants discharge vast amounts of colored wastewater, filled with organic dyes, surfactants and detergent, that’s generally treated via filtration and biological absorption methods. During treatment, the sticky and foaming effluent is pumped between a network of settling ponds and clarifiers prior to reclamation. Here the operators experienced level problems with ultrasonic sensors due to foam, and pressure sensors due to coating. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact radar level sensor that’s unaffected by foam or turbulence, and specifically designed for pump lift stations. The radar sensors provide continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, monitors the stations and controls the pumps. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Agriculture Fertilizer Distributor Radar Level Sensor

When a California fertilizer and pesticide distributor needed reliable level measurement of their storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. The firm blends and delivers crop nutrition and protection chemicals to hundreds of farmers throughout the Central Valley. Their automated production facility outputs orders for truck fulfillment in bulk, IBC, drum or pale size deliveries. The operators experienced intermittent measurement from ultrasonic level sensors on their tall 40′ bulk tanks due to vapor, and its attenuating effect on acoustic signals. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of pulse radar sensors that are not impacted by vapor or foam. The radar sensors provide continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, monitors the tanks and controls the filling, emptying and alarms. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Detergent Batch Mix Tank Guided Wave Level Sensor

When a Southeast manufacturer of commercial cleaning and sanitizing solutions needed reliable level measurement of their batch mix tanks, they turned to Flowline. The firm blends and packages cleaning supplies for janitorial and institutional customers, and their batch tanks feed the bottling lines with product. Level measurement is used to determine the exact amount of chemical and water to be dispensed into each batch, and accuracy is therefore critical. Further, as some chemicals foam when dispensed, the operators had experienced problems with ultrasonic level sensors, due to the absorbing effects of foam on acoustic signals. For these reasons, Flowline suggested the use of our guided wave sensors, that are extremely accurate and unaffected by foam or bubbles. The guided wave sensors provide continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, monitors the tanks and controls the filling and mixing. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Chlorine Bulk Storage Tank Radar Level Sensor

When a West Coast chemical distributor needed reliable level measurement of their terminal bulk storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. One of the largest suppliers of sodium hypochlorite in the US, the company dilutes, packages and delivers bleach to industrial, municipal and commercial customers in specified concentrations. As bleach is highly vaporous and corrosive, operators had problems with ultrasonic level sensors on their big terminal storage tanks, due to vapor, and its attenuating effects on acoustic signals over distance. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our pulse radar sensors that are unaffected by vapor. The radar sensors provide continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, monitors the storage tanks and controls the inventory. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Chemical Bulk Storage Tank Ultrasonic Level Sensor

When a Midwest equipment manufacturer needed reliable level measurement of their chemical bulk storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. The client required a calcium, ferric and aluminum chloride tank farm for their wastewater treatment process, and wanted non-contact level measurement due to the corrosive and sticky liquids. Additionally, the process engineers expressed concern about the humid summers, and past negative experiences with acoustic signal attenuating condensation. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our reflective ultrasonic level sensors that are unaffected by condensation. The ultrasonic sensors provide continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, monitors the tanks and alarms the replenishment. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Municipal Sewer Lift Station Radar Level Sensor

When a Gulf Coast municipality needed reliable level measurement of a challenging sewer pump lift station, they turned to Flowline. The rectangular multi-chamber vault has very limited measurement space, fills quickly, and becomes quite agitated as the level approaches low level pump shut off. The operators used pressure level sensors here, but found their service life was greatly reduced due to turbulence related mechanical damage. Couple this with the periodic need to unclog the sensing element from grease build-up, and they wanted a lasting, maintenance free solution. For this reason, Flowline suggested our non-contact radar sensors that have narrow beams, easily track fast fills, and are unaffected by agitation or foam. The radar sensor provides continuous level data to the SCADA, which in turn, monitors the station and controls the pumps. Flowline is reliable level measurement.
