Chemical Bulk Storage Tank Ultrasonic Level Measurement

_________________________________________________________________

When a Midwest equipment manufacturer needed reliable level measurement of their chemical bulk storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. The client required a calcium, ferric and aluminum chloride tank farm for their wastewater treatment process, and wanted non-contact level measurement due to the corrosive and sticky liquids. Additionally, the process engineers expressed concern about the humid summers, and past negative experiences with acoustic signal attenuating condensation. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our reflective ultrasonic level sensors that are unaffected by condensation. The ultrasonic sensors provide continuous level data to the PLC, which in turn, monitors the tanks and alarms for replenishment. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Stormwater Pump Lift Station Radar Level Measurement

When an Oklahoma municipality needed reliable level measurement of their stormwater lift stations, they turned to Flowline. Water department operators were dissatisfied with the reliability of ultrasonic level sensors, and longevity of pressure level sensors in this application. The ultrasonic sensors were susceptible to signal attenuating foam or condensing water fog, and the pressure sensors required frequent replacement due to damage from turbulence. For these reasons, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact radar sensors that are unaffected by foam, vapor or turbulence. The radar sensors provide continuous level data to the SCADA system which monitors the stations and controls the pumps. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Hazardous Resin Bulk Tank Radar Level Measurement

When a California manufacturer of highway safety barriers needed reliable level measurement of their resin storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. The company blends unsaturated polyester resin with glass fiber, and pours the batch polymer into molds to produce their structural products. These resins are highly sticky, vaporous and flammable. Plant operators had previously deployed ultrasonic level sensors, but they experienced intermittent measurement due to vapor that attenuated their acoustic signals and caused false alarms. For these reasons, Flowline suggest the use of our intrinsically safe radar sensors that are unaffected by changing process variables such as vapor. The radar sensors provide continuous level data to the PLC which monitors the tanks and alarms for resin replenishment. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Foaming Agitated Digester Tank Radar Level Measurement

When a Tennessee metropolitan water treatment plant needed reliable level measurement of their digester tanks, they turned to Flowline. Six large digesters separate and consume biosolids from the city’s wastewater stream. These are very dynamic applications, filled with explosive methane gas and thick agitated surface foam. Complicating matters, sensors are installed behind valves to minimize the release of methane during inspection or removal. The plant had 26 GHz radar level sensors with long antennas that inserted through the valves and into the tanks. Nevertheless, operators complained that the sensors measured intermittently as the foam height or density changed. For this reason, Flowline suggested the used of our 6.3 GHz radar sensors that are ideal for difficult applications with significant foam and agitation. To disregard the noise reflections caused by the valve, the installer simply adjusted the sensor’s echo curve. The radar sensors provide continuous level data to the SCADA which monitors the digestor levels and manages the biosolids process. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Condensing Wastewater Tank Ultrasonic Level Measurement

When a Midwest manufacturer of metal shopping carts needed reliable level measurement of their wastewater holding tanks, they turned to Flowline. Hot and ambient waste streams are reclaimed into outdoor tanks awaiting treatment and reuse. There the operators noticed that when hot waste entered the tanks on cold days, their previous ultrasonic level sensors would become unstable. Further inspection revealed that the condensing liquid vapor was forming acoustic signal attenuating water droplets on the sensor transducers. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our award winning reflective ultrasonic level sensors that are unaffected by condensation. The ultrasonic sensors provide continuous level data to the PLC which pumps the waste streams and manages the treatment process. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Reliable Pump Lift Station Radar Level Measurement

When a California municipality needed reliable level measurement of their challenging pump lift stations, they turned to Flowline. The surrounding soil is clay based, and heavy rains carry streams of silt into the stormwater system. Over time, the fine red clay fills the stations, coats the equipment and creates operational and maintenance difficulties. Plant operators complained that previous pressure level sensors often clogged, requiring expensive maintenance or replacement. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact radar sensors that are specifically designed for storm, sewer or industrial lift stations. The radar sensor provides continuous level data to the SCADA that monitors the sump and controls the pumps. The level display provides convenient indication. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Popsicle Dispenser Machine Ultrasonic Level Measurement

When a Missouri beverage manufacturer needed reliable level measurement and control of their popsicle bottling line, they turned to Flowline. The company formulates, blends, packages and ships a variety of popsicle products to Midwest retailers. Once blended, the syrupy liquid is transferred to their packaging system dispensing tanks. There process engineers complained that previous float level switches would often stick, causing product overflows or outages that stopped production. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact ultrasonic sensors that are designed to replace float or conductance switches in small tank applications. The ultrasonic sensor provides continuous level data to the controller, which indicates the liquid height and controls the refill process. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Municipal Acid Bulk Storage Ultrasonic Level Measurement

When a Georgia water treatment plant needed reliable level measurement of their sulfuric acid storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. Sulfuric is the most widely applied acid for pH neutralization, and municipalities store it in bulk. The clear, highly corrosive acid is best measured with non-contact sensors. Plant operators had deployed a different brand of ultrasonic level sensors, but complained that they became intermittent during the hot humid months of summer, when condensation would form on the transducers and attenuate their acoustic signals. For this reason, Flowline suggested the use of our reflective ultrasonic sensors that are unaffected by condensation. The ultrasonic sensors provide continuous level data to the SCADA system, which monitors the tanks and alarms for replenishment. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Steel Pickling Acid Storage Tank Radar Level Measurement

When a Midwest steel processing and distribution company needed reliable level measurement of their hydrochloric acid storage tanks, they turned to Flowline. Raw carbon steel sheet is formed, cut, pickled and coiled to order in a highly automated production line. During which, sheets are dipped into vats of HCI or pickle liquor, which removes rust, scale and oil from the metal surface. HCI is an extremely corrosive and vaporous acid, that’s difficult to store, handle and measure. When plant engineers requested a reliable level solution for their new HCI storage tanks, Flowline suggested our non-contact radar sensors with PTFE antenna shields that are unaffected by extreme vapor. The radar sensors provide continuous level data to the PLC, which monitors the tanks, pumps HCI to the vats and alarms for replenishment. Flowline is reliable level measurement.

Clear Well Drinking Water Radar Level Measurement

When an Illinois water treatment plant needed reliable level measurement of their clear wells, they turned to Flowline. Filtered drinking water is temporarily stored in clear wells, where previously injected chlorine is given the required contact time to disinfect any remaining pathogens, prior to the water being pumped into the distribution system. The wells are dank, underground vaults that cycle humidity and condensation with each sunrise and sunset. Plant operators complained that previous ultrasonic level sensors became intermittent when condensation peaked, and pressure level sensors often become damaged by pump turbulence. For these reasons, Flowline suggested the use of our non-contact radar sensors that are unaffected by condensation or turbulence. The radar sensors provide continuous level data to the SCADA which monitors the wells, and the display provides local level indication. Flowline is reliable level measurement.
